It’s no secret that I like things organized. And by things, I mean everything we own. At least twice a year (though that number has been known to double when I’m pregnant which excites MJ to no end), I like to go through the house and garage to clean, straighten up and reevaluate; find out what we should keep, discard or donate. Everything should have a place to live in my opinion. It’s easier to find things, it’s easier to know what you have and the excess is gone. Just did our fall episode this past weekend and it feels good.
One thing that requires more than bi-annual organizing is children’s clothing, especially newborns or infants. It’s a constant revolving track, swapping out the too small for the size up. Tossing the not-worn to make room for worn-all-the-time. Sweet J is just blowing through clothes. I’m putting him in the bigger sizes just so he can get more wear out of them. Love Bug has slowed down some now though I swear her legs get longer each day.
This long intro is just leading into organizing children’s clothing drawers. While Sweet J is pretty blase about whatever I put him in, Love Bug is really into picking out her own clothes. Going hand in hand with picking out clothes is putting away clothes that spontaneously fly off her during the day, like her pants, for example, or her “dance-party outfits” she has to put on. Right now, we’re working on the basic concept of putting away the clothes, we will work on the neatness part later on.
To help Bug in finding and putting away items, I found a way to help organize one of her messiest drawers: the socks, undies and pajamas drawer.
Not to leave Sweet J out, his pants and socks needed some help too.
I love plastic tubs and containers as much as any other clean-freak-nut-job, but I don’t like spending money on them. So, I’m using what I have and what I have is a lot of boxes.
Using some felt, I simply wrapped the boxes and adhered it all with hot glue. With the Missoni box, it was just too stylish to cover so I put the felt on the inside. Thanks Grandma J for Bug’s shoes and the box!
I thought about doing designs on all of them but since they sit inside a drawer, the designs wouldn’t be visible so I went with solid colors. Don’t worry, I’m working on other boxes for another room with patterns.
