I’m actually not a coffee drinker. Yet, anyway. The last time I ordered something coffee-like, I was working a corporate job and ordered an iced frap-a-something one afternoon and for the rest of the day, my computer screen had a radiating light halo. The caffeine was too much. However, most of the other adults in my life drink it. I love the aroma of coffee and idea of a warm cup in hand. I love the art and process of making a good cup and those creamer illustrations all over Instagram? So cool, right? My mom says when I grow up I might like coffee but until then, I just pretend with my hot tea.
With the baby’s arrival imminent and knowing we will have family in our home for the next little while, I’ve tried to get prepared. The house is mostly clean, the guest towels are washed and waiting and I’ve stocked up on good coffee. This year, I’ve partnered with Lavazza USA for a series of posts which will pop up over the course of the following months. With my admission above, it might seem like a strange connection but there is more to coffee than just drinking it. At least for me. There are recipes that are made better with the inclusion of coffee and so many recipes that pair wonderfully with coffee, like coffee creamers. For my guests, I created a few homemade coffee creamers so they can enjoy an extra tasty cup of jo while they are here. Hopefully this will make up for me not doing a much more than snuggling our little beebo.
The flavor options are endless here. If you are wanting a specific flavor to add to your coffee, the sweetened condensed milk and cream/milk base is open to any flavor you want. I chose hazelnut, cinnamon vanilla and almond (and they smell delicious) but I know if my guests are desiring something else, it will be easy to whip up. I used almond milk for these creamers because MJ and a few other family members have slight milk sensitivities. The mixes aren’t as creamy and don’t spread through the coffee like cream does but it’s worth it. Thank goodness. I think there might be a little sleeplessness going around soon. :)

Ingredients
- 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 3/4 cup cream or milk of your choice - heavy cream or half & half or whole, low fat, skim, almond, soy milk
- optional mix ins
- 2 tsp hazelnut extract
- 2 tsp cinnamon (or 1 tsp cinnamon extract
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp almond extract
Instructions
- Whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and cream/milk of your choice.
- Add in the optional flavor additions.
- Refrigerate until use.

My family uses a powdered milk product called Morning Moo’s (Milk alternative made by Augason Farms), as a back-up when we run out of milk. Surprisingly, it tastes GREAT!! Almost, like regular milk, so much that when it’s just as cold as milk, we can barely tell the difference. (It’s sold as a “prepper” product, great because it’s a dry powder till you mix it up) Anyway, I used this stuff to make my creamer, which seems to last a bit longer than milk. One advantage, is that you can add a little extra powder if you choose, and you can control the thickness of your creamer yourself. Also, it’s non-dairy for those that need it!
