Homemade Fruit Juice Gummies! | this heart of mine

Whenever I can, I like to make the food my family and I eat. In doing so, I know exactly what is in the dishes I’m preparing and we can skip all the unnecessary fillers, preservatives and ingredients no one can pronounce. Plus, now this is my biased opinion, the food just tastes better. Haha! Yes, I’m particular. Yes, I am picky. But, I like it that way.

I’m a few years younger than Juicy Juice® but I can remember when my natural, “crunchy”, health-conscious mom learned about it and deemed it good enough to purchase and allow us to drink. I remember her remarking that Juicy Juice® was 100% real fruit juice, not the artificially sweet drinks of other brands, and thus began my confusion over food labels and food descriptions but that is a whole different story.  I’m still the child of a natural, health-conscious mom and Juicy Juice®, and it’s 16 flavors of 100% juice, continues to be what I purchase for my family and our recipes.

Because of my particularities, I like to make a lot of the food I feed my family from scratch. Homemade just tastes better to me so I’m always on the lookout for recipes. Turns out, Juicy Juice® is ideal for making fruit juice gummies. I thought my children would like that.  I was a bit floored to read the fruit juice gummies recipe and find only two items on the ingredient list. Two things: Juicy Juice® (100% juice) and plain gelatin. And since 8 ounces of Juicy Juice® 100% juice is equal to 1 cup of fruit, I can get on board with this treat.

Fruit Juice Gummies

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups of Juicy Juice® 100% juice – we used apple juice & fruit punch but all flavors work!
  • 4 Tbsp plain gelatin

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, pour in the Juicy Juice®.
  2. Gently add the gelatin powder and allow it to absorb for a few minutes.
  3. Once the gelatin has absorbed, whisk the mix.
  4. Turn the stove on medium heat, warming the mix but never boiling it.
  5. When the mix changes from thick to runny and all the gelatin has dissolved, it's ready.
  6. Pour this runny liquid into a shallow load pan. Refrigerate for four hours.
  7. After four hours, remove from the pan and cut the gelatin into bite-sized pieces.
  8. Keep refrigerated for up to two weeks.
