Excuse me, I’m in the middle of a glitter stage.
Remember this thinking-of-Sweet-J-misstep?
I was inspired again to use the glitter in a piece for Love Bug’s room. This time, I think it works.
I like word art. Lots of words and quotes are hung around my home, plus, I have a few binders filled with phrases I’ve collected since middle school.
For this piece, I wanted words that, to me, are associated with childhood. I made a list of words I liked and rearranged the list until I liked the flow.
On a piece of MDF, I laid out the letters. The letters pack below were a find at Michael’s. I think they are for scrap-booking but I’m not sure. What I like is that they are stickers, so I simply peeled the backing off and stuck them down. You could also use a Cricut/cutting machine to make the letters, too. Just dab lightly with a glue stuck and you’re set.
Lined up and ready to stick.
I actually made two of them and used the backing of the letters from the first one. With a little glue (just a couple dabs with a glue stick), I was able to get two uses out of one set of letters. Oh and I stuck some hearts down too.
Then I painted multiple layers of white paint. Some layers were painted up and down, others, from side to side. Painting both directions made a very smooth, clean surface.
I peeled the letters off and started a-glitterin’.
I used Martha Stewart glitter and purchased her glitter glue with a fine-tip applicator as well. Some of the glitter names are so interesting. Here’s a list of the colors I used: kunzite, turquoise, copper, peridot, tourmaline, purple sapphire, lapis lazuli, smoky quartz and verdelite.
The piece is not hanging yet. I’m not sure where to put it. But when it finds a home, I will let you know.
Take care.
