Let talk boldness this month.
In literal terms, bold is defined as:
- not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring
- not hesitating to break the rules of propriety; forward; impudent
- necessitating courage and daring; challenging
- beyond the usual limits of conventional thought or action; imaginative
I absolutely LOVE these definitions. I often wish I could speak like the dictionary reads, if that makes any sense. It’s so complete and thorough and gorgeous. When Bug asks me to define things, I often find myself using the very word she wants me to define in my definition which is not helpful at all. That is neither here nor there but it’s all the say, I love these words and phrases:
Not hesitating in the face of actual danger. Courageous. Daring. Beyond the usual limits. Imaginative.
I know I’m biased but bold really speaks to me. Not in a flashy, obscene way but an inner strength, putting-yourself-out-there kind of way. Gets me all excited. :)
But this is only the literal definition. The prompt this month is to examine what bold/boldness means to you and use it to get you moving, to get into action. Boldness is different for each and every person. What seems like child’s play to one can seem like walking on the moon for someone else. The best part is, we get to choose what we are bold about. We are the deciders. We get to set our own parameters and boundaries. None of that gotta-do-what-everyone-else-is-doing shenanigans around here.
For me, my bold act is (breathe deep), getting all my ducks in an official row to legally legitimize my business (LLC baby!) and make a move on a work space outside my home. There are a few more details within this ‘deal’ but I’m waiting for a couple more things to move into place before blathering on and on about it. Don’t worry. I will keep you in the loop.
I feel strongly about my direction and I feel confident in my ability to work hard and steer the course. However, sometimes, in the dark or a moment of quiet, the fear comes in. The overwhelming realization that this is all of my making, every last bit of it, and in the end, I could fail. Thoroughly. Conclusively. Exhaustively. On all accounts. Utterly fail. The truth is I didn’t study business, I’m sorta making it up as I go along and I can’t predict the future. It’s downright scary.
But I’m choosing to trust myself and my Creator.
I’m looking beyond the usual limits of conventional thought.
I’m using my imagination.
I’m going to be bold.
Huzzah!
So what is it? What are you going to be bold about this month? Is it finally signing up for the class you’ve been dying to take? Is it wearing deep red lipstick no matter what anyone else thinks? Maybe it’s really standing up for yourself when you usually don’t or tackling the project that has been on your list forever because you are afraid to do it wrong.
Don’t be afraid. Have courage. Be bold.

You can do this, girl. You seriously have the talent to execute very well, and the creativity to create really amazing new ideas. xo, MJ
Anyone who uses the word “huzzah” is already half way there! At least in my mind.
I have no doubts that if anyone can do it, you can. And no matter how it goes, you’ll land on your feet. You’re the make things happen kinda gal.
