Car & Tree Ornament

Car & Tree Ornament | this heart of mine

Images of cute cars with trees tied on top with quiet snow falling all around make it on my list of favorite Christmastime images behind shots of Christmas lights, children’s faces illuminated by Christmas lights, cups of hot beverages and outdoor winter scenes. Animals wearing antlers and Rudolf noses comes in at number six. :) Anywho, since falling in love the the car with tree look, I’ve been wanting to make one for our Christmas decor.

A small car will never do for my family since my husband is so tall (I call him Lurch every once in a while) so a toy car it is. After stealing the perfect little wood paneled car from Sweet J’s too large stash, I picked up a little tree from the craft store and waited for the right season.

It’s the simplest project. Like, maybe the easiest one ever. Here’s what you need.

Supplies:

-toy car
-tiny tree
-small screw eye (image below)
-drill with small bit
-twine
-ornament hook

The little item in my hand is called a screw eye. I find the name a little unsettling but at least it is descriptive. After making a pilot hole with a very tiny drill bit, I twisted the screw eye in place.

I didn’t glue the tree in place but you surely can. Instead, I tied it in place with the baker’s twine, hiding the knot on the bottom side.

Then, I secured an ornament hook through the screw eye making it hangable.

It does look good on the tree but I like it off the tree too. What’s great is the little eye of the screw is hidden in the tree so it can do both, sit or hang.

  1. I adore this! I would love to find the exact car you used. Is there any info on the bottom of it eg: who made it?
    Thanks!

  2. I love your ornament! Where did you get the toy car?? I’ve looked high and low for something similar, any suggestions?
