Clothe Yourself

Hello all!

I have been itching to finish a few clothing related projects for a while now but with all the other items on my list, especially the art show that goes up less than a month(!!), I haven’t gotten very far. But, finally, one day last week, I sat down and sewed two bucket hats from Delia’s cute tutorial and I love how they turned out. If you follow me on instagram, you saw the hats there too.

I don’t have the process pics I usually do because Delia’s tutorial is clear and easy to follow, though I wish I would have cataloged the painted fabric portion.

Using old white tees from MJ, I cut the hat parts out according to the tutorial. Then I used my favorite fabric medium, the Pebeo Setacolor fabric paints, and painted the parts to my liking.

One set was a tangerine and pink set. Love Bug fell in the love with the hat and thus claimed it as her own. This face was her idea.

I painted the top of the hat straight pink and the brim of the hat straight tangerine. For the middle section, I painted the top half pink and the bottom tangerine and used water to help them bleed together. I allowed the parts to dry and then heat set them with my iron. The interior of the hat I left white.

So summery. The dress coordination was a happy accident.

The second hat is a gray and pink combination. Unfortunately, there was no one else but me to model it. :)

I used pink thread to put them together which looks fresh on the gray. I used a little bit of interfacing in the brim on this hat to give it a little form.

I love the washed look the fabric paint has and, because it’s made with worn jersey, it’s soft and comfortable. The hats were fun to make and I love the Setacolors so I just might make a few more. Mom? J?

This last project has been sitting around for a long time.

I painted a tank of mine using freezer paper and a metallic silver paint from Martha Stewart’s collection but wasn’t sure about it so it fell into the too-large-for-my-liking pile of not quite finished projects. But I pulled it back out last week, checked it over and I think it’s alright.
