I am certain I am far behind you all in seasonal decorating. The night before our weekend guests arrived, I finally dragged out the Halloween decor. Of course they didn’t care either way but I felt better and the children were head over heels with joy. I’m not sure why it’s such a challenge for me; I think it is the “extra stuff laying around makes me itch” kinda thing. :) However, I do like switching out the seasonal wreaths on our front door. Then, at least from the outside, the house looks festive. Hanging a wreath is one of those simple and easy changes that anyone can do without much work (even if you have an ugly front door like me).
This year, I made a new one for the season. Very simple yet handsome and telling of fall. I chose to do an asymmetrical and irregularly shaped arrangement and I love how it turned out. I used a grapevine wreath and then picked up a handful of very inexpensive (most were on sale, deeply discounted) faux flowers, berries and grasses from the craft store. I strayed from my normal red hues and instead went with a green/golden yellow/cream color scheme.
To be honest, I didn’t really know what I was going to do until I sat down with everything. And even then, it was one of those ‘try this, see if it works’ kind of processes. I had my glue gun plugged in and hot but then decided that wire would work better. I pulled apart the faux stems and placed things, moving from the top of the arrangement to the bottom. Once I liked how it looked, I wrapped them with wire and threaded the wire through the back where I then secured and tightened the ends around parts of the grapevine.
I continued the arrangement down the wreath until I felt it was finished. With the wiry stems, I was able to bend and adjust pieces to look just right. I ended up using only one stem of each faux flower type because I generally adhere to the less is more train of thought.
As I said, I’m happy with the way it ended up and it cost hardly anything, which is my favorite kind of project. Now, despite my procrastination inside, the door is happily done.
Have you made a new wreath for the season?

This is divine. Love!
