Pipsqueak turned one yesterday. He’s not aware of this milestone but I sure am. He’s my baby, my little one. And his first year was one of the most challenging of my life. But we weren’t thinking about that stuff, we were celebrating him. We bought balloons and fed him his first piece of cake. He loved the frosting. We sang happy birthday to him lots and lots and held him back when he tried to stick his finger into the flame of the candle. I tried not to get all goopy but I couldn’t help trying to soak up every little thing. Every little goofy grin, every little chubby handed mouthful, every squeak and eye twinkle. I am a blessed momma.
I do love the cake making and decorating part of birthdays so this first birthday cake was another chance to have fun. A small part of me dreams about being a cake and cookie decorator, making art with frosting. But alas, that will be another lifetime.
I kept his cake simple. Four layers of white cake with our favorite vanilla frosting. Because balloons are a favorite in our house, I used them to add some color. I cut them shapes out by hand and used hot glue to put them together and adhere to the skewers.
Then it’s just a matter of arranging them.
It was a wonderful celebration, ending with a bath for the birthday boy to remove all the frosting and cake from this face, hands, arms, legs and feet.
The sweet (impish) birthday boy.
It was a good day.
Here are some of the other creations I’ve done over the years.
Very nice, very pretty cakes! But I am so disappointed not to see pictures of the birthday boy, he is so cute.
Haha! Thanks Linda! I edited it and added a two shots of him. :)
What kind of paper did you cut for the balloons? Really cute idea. The cake and decoration is worthy of the little one year old cutie. Thanks for sharing.
