I have fallen in love with paper garlands.
I can’t really put my finger on why I love them but I do. They are so festive yet unobtrusive. They are happy and fun. And as an added bonus, they are so simple to make. Oh, and the options are endless. I want one in every color scheme and I want to hang them everywhere I can.
You need one for your home. You really do. And this is how you do it.
Pick your colors and type of paper. For our Halloween garland, I used seven pieces of 12×12 inch cardstock though non-cardstock paper works too. I picked varying hues of orange and black, a couple with metallic finishes and a few with polka dots.
I used my Cricut machine to cut out two sizes of circles: 2 inch and 1 1/2 inch diameter. The seven sheets of cardstock made enough circles to make a long, long, long garland. No Cricut? There are circle punches too, available online and in craft stores.
Once the circles are cut, fire up the sewing machine. With a running stitch, sew them all together, one after another. You can leave a gap between each one or not. I used a denim needle for the extra strength. I’m not sure it’s necessary but with the cardstock, I felt like I should.
For more fun, you can make a stack of three circles and add that in. When the garland is finished, fold the circles on the stitching line and it makes a little ball.
Then hang them up.
Lay underneath them and stare. It’s very calming.
It will give you time to think what colors to use in your next garland. :)
Take care.
Super super neat!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the “how to”!!! :0)
Would love to try this but I’m curious…. What do the ends look like??? How are you making sure its not unraveling???
You can finish the ends with the reverse stitch, just like in regular sewing. Then trim the ends and it’s clean!
