Halloween Rock Magnets

The theme of this year’s decorations, which can be said every year about every holiday’s decorations, is 1.) simple and 2.) doesn’t take up too much space. These magnets fit the bill. Plus, our refrigerator is a happy place to play and these guys will add to the fun.

Gather up:

– smooth rocks
– paint
– paint markers
– magnets
– strong adhesive
– clear coat, optional

Choose the smaller, flatter rocks. If they are too big and heavy, they won’t stay put. Paint them up into Halloween creatures. Black cats, pumpkins and ghosts are Halloween-y to us. Use the rocks’ character. The ghosts look extra ghost-y due to their shape.

The black cats are my favorite.

I used a little 3-D paint for the stem on our happy jack-o-lanterns.

I did attempt Frankenstein but couldn’t get the face right. :(

Top it with a clear coat if you wish. It will make the paint last longer. Especially if they will be used as characters in various Halloween dramas. Use a strong adhesive to connect the magnet to the backside.

Then stick ’em up.

And enjoy!

Take care.

  1. Found this through Pinterest.
I’ve done some glass magnets, but never stones.
These guys are too neat! I def will be making some!
    Thanks! :)

  2. Ack! Such a perfect little idea, especially for us where our beach which is just steps away and absolutely covered in flat rocks of all shapes and sizes! This might be the craft I’ll do with my son’s kindergarden class’ Halloween party.

  3. I am doing this with my kids this weekend after we go camping…maybe we can find some rocks on our camping trip.

Two questions: what kind of “strong adhesive” did you use? Also, not related to the magnets, what font is that on your pictures (boo and happy halloween)?

    Thanks!

    1. Hey Amy! Rocks from a camping trip sound perfect.
-I used epoxy glue to stick the magnets on.
-And the font on the pictures is called Amatic SC. It’s free!! :)
      Thanks for stopping by.

  4. These are great! I’m using this creative idea for my son’s 5th grade class craft. What paint did you use?

  5. Saw your project on Paper Crafts Connection and had to come visit. LOVE these adorable magnets. The features are simple enough that I think even paint-challenged-Janis could manage them. What cute little Halloween decorations. Thanks for sharing your idea!!!
