Halloween Treat Pouches

Most holidays inspire me to make something I can give to family and friends. The simple gifts don’t always make it to said family and friends but I believe in the sentiment, “it’s the thought that counts” (or I just tell myself that when I fail to get them delivered). Halloween is no exception. I had this idea for candy pouches and I just love how they turned out.

Candy is an unavoidable part of the holidays. It’s everywhere! And even though it is made in fun holiday-themed colors, the packaging bugs me. But tucked inside these pouches, the candy looks good plus it’s very exciting. At least that is what I’m led to believe by Bug and Sweet J’s reaction. It’s quite possible they will be the only recipients of this sweet gift.

You can make these out of any kind of paper or fabric that you’d like. Use what works for you. For my pouches, I used the following.

Supplies:

-tissue paper
-parchment paper
-simple shapes – I did a Google search for shapes I liked and then I resized them to fit my needs. For sizing, most are 4 inches in their longest length and between 3-4 inches the other way.
-thread
-optional: markers, additional paper
-treats – I used M&Ms because they are classic holiday candy to me but use what you like. You may have to adjust the pouch size depending on the treat.

I used parchment paper and tissue paper together because by themselves, tissue paper is so fragile and parchment paper is boring. I layered one sheet of tissue paper on top of two sheets of parchment. To keep things from slipping everywhere, I sewed the three sheet together on one end. It really helped. I then traced very simple shapes on the parchment sheet side. I sewed around each shape, making sure to leave an opening to fill them with treats. I cut each one out, trimming down the paper near the stitching.

Then we stuffed them. Bug and Sweet J LOVED stuffing the pouches. Candy makes happy workers. :) After they were filled, I sewed up the opening and trimmed the last edge and threads. I stuck a little green stem in the opening of the pumpkin as I sewed it up and used markers to add face parts.

To get the treats, simply tear or cut them open. Make a bunch for the neighbors or a handful for just your family.
