I learned where to put facial tissues in a home from my mom. When she and I lived in the same house, tissue boxes weren’t good looking. Like at all. Combine unfortunate-looking boxes with clutter-haters and we couldn’t do anything but hide them in drawers and baskets. I remember my mom once cutting down a too-tall tissue box just to get the thing in the tissue drawer. So, now, in our house, I hide tissue boxes too. There is the one in my nightstand and on the book shelf in the children’s room, half hidden behind books. There is a box tucked into a basket next to the couch and one in a kitchen cupboard. Currently, we have two exposed boxes, one in my work room and one in the toy room, only because there aren’t other places to put them. But things are changing.
In the years since I shared a home with my mom, tissue boxes have become less unfortunate looking. Like a lot less. They’ve improved so much so I’ve actually spent a few Target trips slowly walking the tissue aisle, perusing the patterns and designs. When I attended Alt in January, I got to see Kleenex’s newest line of stylish tissue boxes, designed by style expert, Issac Mizrahi. I thought the new line was fabulous. Bold and deeply colored in so many varieties! As a person who appreciates great patterns and prints, I wish I could be in the room, just to watch the design teams develop them. I’m such a nerd.
Now, the styles are good-looking so it’s almost a waste to tuck them in a drawer, cupboard or basket. These boxes should be seen and enjoyed. My Love Bug already has dibs on the purple one (because purple is still her favorite color). The best part about this bit of home style is that all you have to do is plop them down wherever you want them. With the variety of colors and patterns, you are sure to find one to fit your home. I had some monochromatic style fun with my boxes.
On top of this brand new line of stylish tissue boxes, Kleenex is also hosting a sweepstakes on their site through March 7, 2014 called, “Catwalk or Kleenex?” I entered when I was in SLC and the little quiz is fun. And who would say no to NYC and a nice chunk of mullah? Not this lady. Here’s how you can enter.
To enter, visit www.kleenex.com/style and answer a series of questions asking you to identify which design is Kleenex brand and which design is from the catwalk. By taking the short quiz, consumers are automatically entered to win an all-expense paid trip to New York City to find his/her Kleenex brand style with a famous designer. The winner will also receive $5,000 spending money for a NYC shopping spree. Entry is open January 13, 2014 through March 7, 2014 and limited to once per promotion period.
