My Turn

Sorry for the hiatus. I’ve been busy.

Busy being sick, that is.

I don’t remember being this sick before and wow, am I thankful!! Sickness and mommy duties are not an easy combination. And Love Bug was not impressed with my couch cushion/blanket impression I did most of last week.

I really thought I was on the mend. My voice was still rough but my throat hurt less, the congestion was moving, the headache was gone and I didn’t feel the need to lay down all the time.

Then Monday night came.

I went out with a friend for dinner and noticed my left ear was filling up. That feeling that happens on an airplane. It takes a couple yawns or chomps on some gum to pop the ear and things are back to normal. Except, I couldn’t get my ear to pop. The pressure just kept building and building.

Pressure turned into immense pain. And the pain kept me awake all night.

Like the whole night. Just about every minute of night time.

I thought my brain was going to turn to goo or I would go crazy and be placed in padded room. Seriously. I was concerned I would go insane. The pain was mind boggling.

Finally my doctor’s office opened and it was confirmed: a heinous, raging ear infection with a block Eustachian tube. Sweet.

Thus commenced the couch cushion/blanket impression.

I had the antibiotics, the decongestant spray, the numbing ear drops (which I wasn’t impressed with) and a major pain killer (another product I wasn’t impressed with), plus the heating pad and lots of water. I really wanted my mom. That would have made everything better. I know I am definitely an adult, a grown up, but just having my mom with me would have made it all less horrible.

And poor MJ. On top of working, acting as both parents and studying for a large designation test for work (which he passed, thankfully), he had to make sure I was still alive. I was really into my inanimate object portrayal.

He did try to steal the spotlight by saying he thought he was getting sick too but I kindly told him in so many words to drop it. There was only one place for a sicko in the house and I was taking it this time. : )

My ear drum burst during the night on Tuesday, which was totally gross in a cool way, so while the pressure was gone, so was my hearing.

So I was sleeping all the time and couldn’t hear very well; in mommy skills, I was rocking it.

And that was how I spent my week.

I still can’t really hear on my left side so I’m constantly asking “what??” but I feel better. I hope I haven’t said it too loud and jinxed myself because I am in no mood for another week of recuperating. I really hope my turn is finished.

The sun was out today and I am so thankful for being healthy.

Well at least on my way to being healthy.

Take care.
