For the first time this fall/winter, I turned on the heat yesterday. But only for 20 minutes. Just long enough to take the chill out of the air. I know we have a new furnace and the reason we have a furnace at all is to heat the house but it’s a matter of principle.
With the sun streaming in the windows most of the day and with the cooking and baking I do, the house, without the furnace on, warms up to above 70 degrees each day. I don’t want to use the furnace as long as this is the case.
Anyway, yesterday morning it was a bit chilly so I broke down, but only for 20 minutes. The chill helped me remember this warm drink.
I’ve already shared my fondess for Nutella when I posted on Nutella buttercream frosting. This is just a wonderful; warm, smooth, silky, drinkable Nutella. With a little cocoa powder, it’s also chocolatey.
Nutella Hot Chocolate
fills two mugs
- 2 cups milk
- 4-5 Tbsp Nutella
- 1 1/2 Tbsp cocoa powder
- pinch of salt
Over medium heat, whisk together the milk, Nutella, cocoa powder and salt. Heat through.
Pour into mugs and enjoy.
Of course, real whipping cream makes everything better.
Then there are chocolate chunks. Ooo la la!
And if you’re into it, a sprinkle of cinnamon. Cinnamon can also be added in the drink itself for a spicer mix. Half to 1 teaspoon is enough.
Pure decadence.
This is what happens when I left a certain curly-headed sidekick alone with this delicious treat.
Thankfully the cups were over-filled so there was plenty left to enjoy.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Take care.

Oh my gosh, that looks so good right now. You held out longer than we did on the heat. I think we turned ours on a month ago.
These photos are gorgeous! Nice work finding a way to make hot chocolate look so good!
Oooh yummy. I’m in Texas so it’s always a special morning when it’s cold enough for hot chocolate. And cinnamon? Genius!
thanks jodie! :)
My friends and I absolutely adore Nutella. They are going to love this!
