With some house projects in the works, I thought I should share our new space with you before we thoroughly mess with it. I went back and forth repeatedly on whether to share the market shots of the house, all clean and properly set, but decided against it since they aren’t ours to share and it’s not our stuff. Please forgive the unperfectness.
As I’ve shared already, we searched for our new home for a long time, over a year and a half. However, our desire to move started back when Sweet J was on the way and MJ and I realized we had outgrown our currently living space. Unfortunately, because we had purchased the home at the height of the housing bubble, we weren’t able to move for financial reasons. This is all to say, it’s been a long road. But now that’s over and we are starting a new chapter.
Our search was extra lengthy because of a few specific things. 1) We – and by we I mean me mostly – are particular people and I wanted to check off just about everything on our “dream house” list. If we were going to buy, I wanted it to be damn near perfect for us. 2) We wanted to stay in our school district and, more precisely, in a neighborhood zoned for the elementary school Bug attends. This would ensure the two boys would attend the same school as well. And 3) we were extra anxious and apprehensive after getting stuck in our last house. We found a good realtor who kept our spirits up while we searched and advocated for us well in the process.
So the house. We landed in a four bedroom, three bath house on a nice lot in a cul-de-sac that backs up to a nature preserve. From our first apartment through the rental townhouse, MJ and I haven’t had our own, unattached space during our married life. It’s such a luxury, we absolutely love it. We are so grateful. We even have room for both of our cars in the garage! Another luxury we can’t wait to really appreciate this winter. We love the windows, the kitchen, the space this house provides. I still pinch myself, unbelieving this is our home. But it is and we are ecstatic. There is plenty of time to droll on and on so I’ll wait to go into detail until we’re working on something.
Here’s are the visuals.
The front room will serve as my office space. We have plans to make a seating area, a nice spot for coffee and conversation, and when the piano arrives, it will be in this room, too.
It’s one of my favorite spaces. The light is luscious.
The dining room has the new-to-us table (that needs updating) and is a holding spot for a host of things that haven’t found a place to live yet.
The kitchen. I love this room. It’s the most used room in the house.
The family room. So many plans.
These are the doors to the deck between the kitchen and the family room. I really like this part of the house.
The basement is currently in the process of getting finished. The electrical work was completely yesterday, drywall starts tomorrow and then carpet will be installed last. It’s a brand new experience for us and we are excited to see it get completed.
I’ll share the bedrooms another day, when they are clean. Haha!
And then the back.
I adore it.
So here’s our new space. You can see paint chips and unfinished, uninstalled cupboards as well as boxes and tubs of stuff that haven’t been put away yet. We’ll get there. I’m itching to do everything but keep reminding myself to have patience. Oh the hardship of having too many ideas and plans. :) Now the fun begins.
