Painted Tins with Mini Birthday Garlands

September is a popular birthday month. Supposedly the most populous birthday of the year, in the US at least, is September 16th. None of my or MJ’s immediate family have birthdays in this month but we have plenty of extended family and friends whose special day falls around this time. Do you have a birthday soon?

When I think of fall time birthdays, the first ones who come to mind are those of my siblings, born in the beginning of October and November. I try to send at least a little handmade goodie along with the rest of the package. I can’t help it. Sending something handmade is like sending a hug, in my opinion.

With the upcoming birthdays, I made-over a metal tin and filled it with a festive mini garland.

To make one yourself, collect:
-tins
-spray paint
-stickers, vinyl pieces, painters tape
-paper, glue, scissors

If you don’t have any tins sitting around (or collected in your craft supplies), I think craft stores now stock them in various sizes and shapes.

First, prep the tin for the spray paint. Using a low-grit sandpaper, gently scuff the surface of the tin. This creates a grippable surface for the paint to adhere to.

Wipe it clean, apply a thin, even coat of primer and top with your choice of paint. Make sure the paint is applied in thin, even layers, especially around the place where the lid and the bottom connect. Thick glob or runs could get scratched off.

Add a little design using painters tape or a vinyl cut-out. Sticker shapes could be used too.

Allow to dry thoroughly.

Once it’s dry, fill it with a simple garland.

This one is ready to send.

At the end of this year, I will celebrate my golden birthday. I’m really not a big-birthday-celebration kind of girl (despite our celebration earlier this year) but I’m planning something anyway.

Gold will be the color. :)

Take care.

P.S. Did you notice the new look? It’s still a work in progress so forgive me if you find something out of place or misaligned.
