Our Sweet J is officially three. His birthday day did not go as we thought it would.
The Tuesday before Sweet J’s birthday, MJ came home with some sort of illness. (At the end, the takeaway is -> MJ is a germ-sharer.) A few days later, I wasn’t feeling too good either. At 4:30am on the morning of his birthday, J came into our bed very hot and uncomfortable. I gave him medicine, he threw it up and then we laid together for another two hours while the medicine, the stuff that stayed in, took effect. We got a little more sleep before the day truly began but it didn’t improve. The fever stayed hot and Sweet J just didn’t feel good. He wasn’t himself. In the evening, we had a potluck dinner with friends and we took J’s cake to share. He made it through us singing to him and the cutting the cake but he asked to go home before even taking a bite.
The sickness continued through Sunday with much of the same. I was starting to obsessively worry; fevers frighten me. Thankfully, very early on Monday morning (like 5:15am), he woke up cheerfully asking for food. While I tried to grab a few more minutes of shut-eye, he munched on crackers and water and he’s been the old Sweet J ever since.
He is unfazed about being sick on his birthday. I felt terrible. It’s not like I could have made him better quicker but I wanted his special day to be much better than it was.
We did have more cake which is kind of the most important part of the birthday celebration so it’s mostly okay. :)
Before the whole sickness fiasco, I had a inspiration page pulled from the Family Fun magazine of paper animal heads. Sweet J loves puppies and doggies. He often pretends he IS a puppy/doggy. J also loves the color blue. So, I made up a wall full of doggie faces in blue just for J.
Here’s how to make them.
Supplies:
-paper
-scissors
-hot glue or double-sided tape
-black pens/markers
-puff balls
Begin with a circle. Any size works. Ours were about 7 inches in diameter.
Cut a pie shape from the circle. The size of the slice effects the dimension of the face – a narrow slice makes a flatter ‘face’, a thicker slice makes a pointier ‘face’.
Pull the edges of the slice to overlap and secure with hot glue or double-sided tape.
Then add ears, eyes, puff balls and any other facial details to the faces.
A very happy birthday to my sweet boy.
It’s been a wonderful and crazy busy three years.
