Remember last year when I made these edible Valentine Message Treats with Airheads? I ended up winning their Valentine’s Day contest with the sweet messages and I’m still shocked a year later. So when Airheads approached me about a March partnership, I was all in. I immediately thought of this pixelated woven heart card I adore and thought a pixelated shamrock that was also edible would be sweet (pun intended). Most of the time playing with one’s food is frowned upon but this is one of those times when it is encouraged.
And I thought a shamrock was incomplete without a rainbow or two. Thankfully I had a few Airheads Xtremes sitting around from my winnings last year. :)
Supplies:
-Airheads, 1-2 green (Watermelon) and 3 white (Mystery)
-pixelated shamrock printable
-bowl of warmest water from the tap
-rolling pin
-cutting board
-kitchen sheers or sharp chopping blade
-wax paper
-straight edge, optional
First, place unopened Airheads into the bowl of warm water. This will soften the candy without melting it, making it easier to work with.
After the whites have sufficiently softened, use your fingers to press them while they are still in the wrapper. Smooth out any ridges. Peel the wrappers off the three white Mystery candies and lay them out together on your work surface (I covered mine in wax paper), overlapping them by ¼”. Use the rolling pin to smooth out the ridges as best you can. Then cut the white down to an approximate 3¼” x 3¼” square. Set aside.
Print off the shamrock. Remove the greens from the water and again smooth them with your fingers while still in the wrapper. Peel off the wrappers, lay on your cutting surface and cut into strips either with the kitchen sheers or the sharp chopping blade. Use the width of the strips on the printable as a guide.
Take the strips and begin cutting them down to match the lengths on the printable. Then place them on the white candy surface, using your fingers to press them down and adhere them. I found it easiest to start with the longest strip in the middle. Since it falls in the middle, it was easy to place it first and then work up and then down to finish. If you find a piece isn’t sticking, get a little water on your finger, rub in on the backside of the green strip and then it should stick to the white.
When your shamrock (or shamrocks) are complete, slip them into a clear bag for friends.
May you have sweet luck all month long.
This is such an awesome idea!! I haven’t had airheads in years!!… Wonder if I can get them in Australia…
So thinking of doing this Easter style- like a washi taped egg!! Bonus, more flavours!!
Cheers for sharing :D
Thanks Carmelina! I love the egg idea. Yummy!
