Recipe: Oreo Truffles

Homemade gifts can be edible too, especially in this season (hello, heart-shaped box of chocolates). We Me here at this heart of mine like to make stuff and these Oreo truffles are my solution to store-bought anything. They might seem daunting and tedious but in reality, there are only two ingredients plus the chocolate for coating. The tedious bit is a little hard to shake because it’s true but in the end, when you are either eating them yourself or sharing them, the end result is worth it.

Because I don’t care for tedious, I try to find ways to make recipes less so. Once the crushed Oreos are combined with the softened cream cheese, I used a small kitchen scoop to divide up the batter. Instead of ball truffles, mine were dome shaped. When it came to dipping the domes, I first dipped the base, just enough to cover it but not to spread out around the edges. When that hardened, I dipped the rest of the dome, coating each completely. To dress them up a bit, I drizzled almond bark on top. The recipe honestly does come together quickly with ample opportunities to lick ones chocolate covered fingers.

I want to blame the tardiness of this post on the mini heart garland prop in the frame. It’s not really the culprit but something needs to shoulder the responsibility, why not the adorable garland? I used tiny heart cut-outs and strung them together by hand. I cannot get over its cuteness.

Oreo Truffles

Ingredients

  • 1 package of regular Oreos
  • 1 8oz package of cream cheese, softened
  • chocolate bark
  • almond bark, optional

Instructions

  1. Use a food processor to crush the Oreos. Process until smooth.
  2. Stir the cream cheese into the processed Oreos, mix well.
  3. Use a small kitchen scoop to divide up the mix and place on wax paper. (If you don't have a small scoop, use a spoon to divide up the batter and roll each scoop.)
  4. Melt chocolate bark and dip the small domes, bottoms first, replacing them on the wax paper to harden.
  5. When all are done, go back and dip the tops, coating them completely.
  6. Add an optional drizzle of almond bark.
