After making this turkey bottle cap necklace for Love Bug, I quickly started thinking of other holiday themed necklaces to create for her (or myself…I really like them, too.) Not only do the necklaces take up less space and require zero additional t-shirts to add to our collection, they can be worn every day of the applicable, or non-applicable, season without people wondering about your hygiene. :)
So what creature is for this season? The post title kinda gives it away….
First, let me start with a reindeer story.
Three years ago, when Love Bug was just a wee little Bug, MJ’s sister gave us a darling coverall, zip-up, hooded outfit for our baby’s first holiday season. To be honest, when I received it, my first thought is that I would never dress my baby (or subsequent babies) in this outfit. I just felt too mean.
But then, I put it on Bug…..
And I loved it!!
I still felt mean so I only put it on her for this photo shoot but I took lots of pictures to capture her cuteness.
Excuse the highly adjusted photo. I was still learning about my camera. Check out those cheeks!!!
Fast forward three years and yes, I brought it out again. However, Sweet J, uncharacteristically, disliked it more than Bug did so I’m going to have to do the photo shoot again. Granted, he just recently figured out how to put the whole crawling thing together and his father was egging him on to be uncooperative. :)
That is one hefty reindeer. Ha!
We do have headband antlers too and those weren’t so bothersome.
Long story short, I think reindeer, especially Bug and Sweet J reindeer are darling.
On with the tutorial.
Like with the turkey necklace, my supplies included:
- Bottle cap
- Spray paint (or spray glitter)
- Googly eyes
- Felt – I used the stiffer variety for the antlers but regular felt for the nose.
- Jump ring and necklace string

I used Bronze Blaze Glitter Blast by Krylon to coat the bottle cap, after priming it in white. Once that dried, I used a nail and hammer to make holes for the jump ring. For the reindeer necklace, I made two holes and looped the jump ring through both.
I added googly eyes and a red circle nose.
I didn’t have any stiff brown felt on hand so I used what I had and painted white felt brown. Worked perfectly.
Attached the antlers and hung it on a string.
Done and done.
Hope Bug lets me borrow it.
Take care.
