So last week, I posted on the house projects I was working on. I had high hopes of getting a lot done with one less child about, however, a malevolent power was at work. First, there was the computer issues and hours spent on the phone with customer service. Then an electrical breaker went out; a breaker that powers our garage door, garage outlets including our extra freezer and our upstairs bathroom (weird, I know). We had extension cords running from indoors to power the stuff in the garage all week and I did my hair in the kitchen. Although I replaced the breaker (sounds scary but it’s really easy), we had to call in a professional electrician who kindly came this week and fixed the problem. And finally, if that wasn’t enough, our delinquent air conditioner gave up again. Thankfully it pooped out on Friday when Sweet J and I were headed to Iowa but we did sweat a little before we left. (It got fixed that evening.) Urg. Not what I wanted for the week. I really wanted to call it quits, bury myself in the couch and not get out for a week or two. But life keeps going, especially for moms.
Even though I’m not as far along as I want to be, here is a quick run down of the things I have completed.
This is a mirror I procured from some good friends, revamped with a coat of espresso spray paint and hung above our bed. I love the shape and frame of the mirror.
It is a hunka hunka heavy mirror. I thoroughly checked the soundness of the screws and wire that make the hanging aparatus. Plus, it’s hanging from a Heavy-Duty Drywall Hanger by Ooks which supports up to 200lbs (the mirror is not even close to being that heavy). The hanger is a nice option because it doesn’t require a stud and is easily installed by pushing it into the drywall and pulling up.
I also centered the padded headboard. There is still work to be done on the rest of the headboard but even having it centered makes me feel better.
I’ve done some rearranging in Love Bug’s room but haven’t settled on anything. I did fix up some Goodwill frames and Walmart clipboards for use in her room. Pretty exciting, no? : )
The frames were all bundled together for $4 and the clipboards were $1-something each. I had to clean some adhesive gunk off the frames and then I scuffed them with a sanding block to help the paint adhere better.
To make sure the paint stuck, I primed everything with primer spray (I’m a huge fan of Rustoleum Painters Touch Ultra Cover 2x spray paint line). Then, using light, even coats, I layered on white paint until everything was covered. I’ve learned my lesson with spray paint: quick and thick does not do the trick. It leads to drips and puddles. Patience is a virtue, people. And it is definitely virtuous when it comes to spray painting.
