MJ and I celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary yesterday. We partied hard by waking up way too early, cleaning poo poo off the bathroom rug (thanks Sweet J), providing therapy to a very tired Love Bug, who stayed up too late playing in her bed and grocery shopping. Living the dream we are.
In honor of our day, I gave MJ the gift every married man wants:
a visual reminder of their wedding anniversary date. You know, just in case they forget.
Ha-ha, I kid.
After finding links to a collection of both letter and number images, I’ve been itching to doing something with them. Our anniversary was just inspiration. It will be a part of the wall art in our room when I rearrange.
*Disclaimer: MJ has never forgotten our anniversary and this project was in no way inspired by a lack of caring on his part. Actually, he’s better at the commemorating our day than I am. I’m not too big on big celebrations. This project was just for fun. : )

What I used:
– number images – Here are the links to Leo Reynolds extensive number and letter flickr collection. I have another project in the works using letters!
– color prints of said numbers
– 1×3 wood piece
– Modge Podge
– black paint
– sanding block

To start, I copy and pasted our wedding date into Microsoft Word. I chose to work in Word for the side rulers so my images would be the correct height for the 1×3 and so I could visually see the layout. I don’t like wasting paper.
I considered doing a photo transfer with this too but because the images have so much texture and interest, I didn’t want to take away from that.
I cut out the numbers, keeping the month, day and year together.
Then I laid out the numbers and cut the 1×3 to fit and then sanded any rough edges.
I applied a thin coat of Modge Podge and adhered the number images.
I left a small gap between the month and day and the day and year images so it would visually look like a written date instead of a random six digit number.
Using black paint, I painted all the edges (even around to the backside) and painted the little visible wood strips between the number sets.
After it dried, I sanded to soften the edges and to remove the paper that hung over.
The black lines didn’t distinguish the “date-ness” of this enough for me so I added a couple of heart “periods” to separate the month, day and year. Then I applied a top coat of Modge Podge to seal it all.
MJ is a lucky guy. Not only does he have a thoughtful, super-woman wife, he has this anniversary visual aid to help remind him of this all important day.
Ha-ha! Man, I must be tired……
It really was a good day, despite the rough start. We ended on a high by eating roasted corn outside on our patio together and then some still-warm Chocolate Zucchini Cake. Mmmmmm.
Love you MJ. We really are living the dream. Though I wish our dream did include a little more sleep…..
Take care.
