To Dye or Not to Dye & A T-Shirt Flower

Hello! Are you getting all sugared up with the sweet cookies in the 25 days series? If you haven’t checked them out yet, you should. Plenty to add to your baking list with plenty more to come.

I’m bopping in today to share some updates to a tutorial I did a while ago, the Infinity Ombre Scarf. It got lots of looks, both on here and in real life. So much so that last night, I was able gathered a group of six friends who were interested in making their own. (MJ fled the house with both children in tow.) So the seven of us, plus eight dye baths and 60+ scarves and extra parts had one big dying party.

Fabric dying that is.

Between the seven of us, we got our money’s worth with the dye baths plus “more hands make light work”.

After dumping and rinsing all the dye in every available water spot, these sweet ladies cleaned up after themselves, using bleach and everything!! It was amazing.

To finish a large, messy project with an even cleaner house than I started with, makes me think I should start having these gatherings more often. Ha!

It was so enjoyable. To have child-free time with a group of women I thoroughly enjoy was splendid.

I did a little tweaking to the original infinity scarf tutorial to make it better.

And, inspired by my friend Nora’s brilliance, here is a quick tutorial on an improved t-shirt flower.

Start with the same flower shape and cut 11 and fold into fourths. Also cut a circle for the base and a strip of fabric for the tie. I used the seam of a sleeve for mine here.

First, attach the tie.

Then start placing the first layer of four like so.

Add the second layer of four, just rotated a bit.

Add the final three, again rotated a bit from the layer below.

Drop a bit of glue at the center and pinch all three top sections together in the middle.

Viala!

Take care.
