Twig Ornaments

Simple and Rustic Twig Ornaments | this heart of mine

Here is a very simple, rustic ornament idea for you: twig ornaments. Specifically, twig snowmen ornaments. I used to have a large collection of snowmen I would drag out and display during the winter months. The collection has been significantly paired down over the years but I still think they are cute. Last year, I did a wooden snowmen garland and this year, it’s twigs. All you need in a branch from the tree in your yard, a few scraps of fabric, an eye screw, plus a couple of tools, and you can make your own little batch of snow guys too.

Supplies:

-tree branch, for bodies – best size is one 1/2″ in diameter
-tree branch, for arms – very small in diameter
-white paint, watered down
-eye screw
-narrow strips of fabric
-ribbon or twine for hanging (optional)
-power drill with bit
-hot glue gun
-saw

1. First, cut the branch (for the bodies) down to 3″ sections.

2. Using white paint mixed with water, coat the sections

3. Once dried, use the drill to make holes on either side of the body for the arms to sit in.

4. Attach the arms with a dot of hot glue in the drilled notches.

5. Wrap a length of narrow fabric around the body and knot it (just like a real scarf).

6. Insert an eye screw at the top.

There is a little reindeer guy tucked in the group. His style was the inspiration for the snowmen.
