During my kitchen mini-makeover, I resized and wrapped some cork boards I had hanging under and on the side of my cupboard. I first hung the cork board a few years ago in an effort to give me some space to hang important items I didn’t want to lose or dig through a pile to find, like the library hours, coupons, church choir schedule and to-do lists for MJ and my fix-it man dad.
This time, I actually measured the space so I could make things fit accordingly. Because I purchased cork board squares (Menards, 4pk of 12″ x”12″ for $5.94), I used cardboard cut to size to serve as the base to which the cork squares were attached. Using the cardboard made it simple to go around the outlet in the middle of the wall below my cupboard.
After making sure the cardboard fit the spaces I wanted to fill, I attached the cork squares to the cardboard using small squares of adhesive tape. I used a combination of the new squares and old squares to cover the cardboard.
When the cork was attached, I was ready for the fabric. I picked this circle pattern cotton fabric up at Hancock Fabrics on sale. Two yards, at 50% off, was $5.39. I washed, dried and ironed the fabric before cutting it to fit over the boards. I gave myself a good five inch edge to wrap with. With this pattern, I did make sure everything lined up.
I secured the wrapped fabric with tape on the backside. Then I attached more adhesive tape to the backside with which to hang the boards. Then I attached them to the wall.
Simple, easy and cheap. All things I like.
