One Valentine’s Day when I was young, my dad surprised my mom, my sister and me with a dinner made by him and my brother. He invited us by giving us handwritten invitations tucked under our dinner plates during a weeknight dinner. We all got dressed up and we turned down the dining room lights and lit candles. I can’t remember what we ate but I see visions of my family, sitting around a candlelit table, being together and smiling.
It’s been a while since I’ve had a sit-down dinner for Valentine’s day. Most of our meals are more exercise than sitting, more rushing than relishing the flavor of our food. However, I still like thinking of setting fancy meals for my valentines. Someday it will be different. Pinks, reds, the fancy dish ware and something sweet! It’s my fave.
The idea for these napkin rings came to me as I was walking through the craft store and came across this gorgeous velvet ribbon in the best colors (and on sale!). I immediately pictured them for a Valentine tablescape and here they are. They are a cinch to make, require hardly anything for materials and wow, do they pop! Let’s make ’em!
Supplies:
-ribbon
-cardboard tube, cut to 1 1/4″ strips
-hot glue
Cut lengths of ribbon to the diameter of the tube. Wrap the ribbon around the tube, holding them in place with hot glue.
Finish the wrapped ribbon by overlapping the beginning with the end.
Serve with good food and sweets!
