Ribbon Hair Clips

Happy Monday! How was your weekend?

We had a springy weather weekend. Wow. It was fabulous. There were walks, outdoor play and the inevitable toddler eating leaves and dirt. Silly Sweet J.

I have another hair accessory this week to go with the glitter bobby pins from last week.

Spring has crept into the colors for this one.

Using Habotai silk ribbon and Setacolors Transparent fabric paints, I painted myself some cheery ribbons. The Habatai silk ribbon is very thin and very smooth. The kind I purchased doesn’t have a finished edge so it frayed just a little during the project and I liked the look. The Setacolor paint set is my favorite recent purchase. Soft, luminous colors for light colored fabrics. I don’t have any pictures of the painting process but I will be using them again for upcoming projects and will share more about them then.

Aren’t they bright and fun? Let me just say that Love Bug LOVES them. One day, she had to wear three at the same time. And, if you’re wondering, they match my velour pants and tee I wear during the day, too. :)

One version was this ruffled cutie. I paired two ribbons together, sewed them together with a wide running stitch with invisible thread and then scrunched it up. Then I glued it on the clip with a hot glue gun.

The other version is simply wrapping the ribbon around the top part of the clip. I wanted to add a little extra color so when I was 2/3rds of the way down, I added a short piece of another ribbon color.

I glued the short piece in place, trimmed the edges and continued wrapping until the clip was completely covered.

There are so many possibilities. And while I want to keep them all because they are so cute, they will make a darling gift for a preschool friend’s birthday this week.

Have a great day.

Take care.

PS. Doing a little revamp of the old blog so please forgive me if everything is not ‘just right’ yet. I’m working on it. :)
