I love giving inanimate objects human effects, traits or qualities. “Oh, the spoons are so happy to be clean and those darn squirrels are so wily and naughty!” It’s part explaining things as a mom and part me just being weird, which I fully accept about myself. The word anthropomorphize means just that, to give human form or attributes to non-human things like plants, animals and other materials. I feel extra cool when I say it, especially when I say it correctly. Last year, I add bow ties to root beer. I found them completely adorable. Little guys all dressed up and ready to go. This winter season, Coca-Cola is celebrating #SipsOfJoy by sharing a Coke with someone you care about and to join in, I had to give their lovely red bottles a little makeover. For winter, two variations came to mind: Mr. Suave and Ms. Sparkles Fur and Mr. and Mrs. Winter Weather (or “The couple from Up North”, depending on where you’re from). Now bear with me as I do a bit of anthropomorphizing….
Above, our winter weather couple is dressed appropriately and high on style. Wrapped in a scarf of this year’s trendy plaid, Mr. Winter Weather is ready to chop some wood and build a roaring fire. Mrs. Winter Weather chose a snuggly flannel scarf in white but added interest by employing an interesting knot. She completed her outfit with fuzzy pom pom ear muffs. Later, Mrs. WW and Mr. WW will snuggle by the fire sipping hot chocolate working on their “up north”accents.
Mr. Suave and Ms. Sparkle Fur are ready for all the new year parties. Mr. Suave is sleek and trim in his black bow tie. His drink should be poured over ice, possibly stirred with a straw. Ms. Sparkle Fur was not about the skimp on the bling, despite the weather. It’s a party and a party calls glitz. She wears her favorite dimond-rhinstone necklace and to keep off the chill, she wrapped herself in her gorgeous faux-fur shrug. Man, it’s hard to be this beautiful.
Okay, okay. Thanks for humoring me and listening to my little story. Haha! I’m done now. Dressing up bottles doesn’t take much and you might just have everything you need already. Here’s how I made these:
*Don’t worry about the hot glue. It easily pulls away from the bottle when you’re ready to drink.
For Mr. Suave:
- Paint a pasta bowtie and allow it to dry.
- Hot glue it to the bottle. So suave.
For Ms. Sparkle Fur:
- Paint large ring pasta and allow them to dry.
- Use a hot glue gun to create a “necklace” with the rings.
- Add a rhinestone in each ring with hot glue.
- Wrap a piece of faux fur fabric around the bottle and secure with a dot of glue.
- Add a rhinestone “button” to the wrap.
For the Mrs. Winter Weather:
- Use a length of fabric (fleece, flannel, a plaid) around the neck of the bottle. Extra points if the “scarf” is knotted cute.
- Hot glue two pom poms, one on each side of the top, to act as ear muffs.
For the Mr. Winter Weather:
- Use a length of fabric (fleece, flannel, a plaid) around the neck of the bottle.
I used fake snow for these photos because real snow melts indoors (duh), however, when I deliver these treats to our neighbors, I plan on tucking them into the real stuff. Authentic and practical. Haha!
Whether or not you dress up some Coca-Cola bottles, you can still celebrate winter with the ones you like best by sharing #SipsofJoy.
