Work Space Update

Office 1.2

I’ve made progress, friends! After much complaining on Instagram, the walls are fully painted and all evidence of the painting process are put away, out of sight. Out of sight until the next project, of course. But it still feels good! It was a lot of work and I am very happy with the result. I chose a light gray tone (Wheat Bread by Behr paint) and with the now white trim (thanks to hired painters – wahoo for hiring out!), the space feels very sophisticated and professional to me. The light tone makes the space seem larger and on days when the sun is shining, the room is very light and bright. It’s the best.

With the plethora of art pieces I have in our storage closet, I decided to hang one. The branch with polymer clay blooms is a big piece for a short wall but I hung it anyway. It makes me happy to see. It offers just a bit of color to a fairly subdued room.

The plan is to keep things very light and bright in this room, sticking with whites, grays, etc. The light gray walls are a versatile backdrop for photos. I know grays and whites are plain and basic. And I know the possibilities are endless, that any item can be changed or made-over when I tire of the color but honestly, I don’t want to. I want to do things once and be done. If I need a pop of color, I can make a paper garland or bring in art work for the wall, something very easy to switch out. Lazy, perhaps. Realistic, you bet. I am keeping an eye out for a white set of shelves. It’s not really important but I still want the switch. :)

Office 4.1

The accordion doors are on the list to get painted, along with the bulletin board and possibly the set of drawers. I know I will love the results, it’s getting started that is the hardest. I feel like, for me, painting projects have five steps, similar to grief. First, there is denial that the project really needs to happen. Then I feel angry that yes, the painting does need to happen. I do a bit of bargaining with anyone who will listen, might hide in some chocolate while I finish up the depression stage before finally sucking it up, accepting it and getting it done. I blame the weather for the unusually long chocolate stage. And the unpainted doors are much better to look at than all the junk I have stuffed in the closet! I am toying with the idea of a metallic tone for the drawers – any advice?

Office 5

The Land of Nod letters are my favorite thing. I love their boldness. I am planning on adding detail on the interior of them, just can’t seem to settle on what the detail should be. :) I hung clipboards to help with organization because I can’t keep up with all the papers!

Office 7

I am a visual person and sometimes fall victim to the out-of-sight-out-of-mind trap. I have found multiple versions of the same list because I had forgotten I previously made a list and I have misplaced ideas and plans because I had no where to put them. Now, I have a place. The boards are removable so I can use them as a writing surface if need be.

Office 6

That is the long and short of things so far. On the to-do list still:

-paint the accordion doors and knobs
-paint the exterior of my work table, maybe add bead board?
-paint bulletin board and trim
-add a print to the fabric covering the shelves on the work table
-color/print to the clipboards
-add detail to MAKE letters
-DIY light fixture?
-other light sources
-slipcover for my chair

There is probably more I can mess with but that is all I can think of right now.

Office 3

If, even for a second, you were thinking, ‘wow, it’s so clean!’, I’m here to tell you it’s all for the camera. Here is all the stuff I cleared off my desk, drawers and table. Like I said above, I can’t keep up with the paper! Plus, broken-neck horses seem to make it in my room as well. :)

Have you updated anything lately?

Take care.

  1. Hooray for progress! Feels so good to feel like things are getting done. And your space looks great! Love the light.

Nothing but babyproofing as far as updates around here…but I’ve got my sights set on some serious landscaping this spring!

  2. Your space is looking fantastic. I love the hanging clipboards to corral all the paper. I try to digitize everything, but there always seems to be those lingering files that have nowhere to go. If I ever get my workspace or my husband’s organized, I’m stealing this idea.
